Info

On this trip we:

  • Saw moose each day
  • Didn’t get bit by too many bugs, not nearly what we were expecting
  • Saw PJ and Brittany take the polar plunge
  • Ate from all the places they sold food on the island
  • Saw Seaplanes bring people to the island, and take others back to mainland

Day 0

We drove to Copper Harbor and stayed at Minnetonka Resort. We didn’t get there until past closing time so they arranged for us to get in after hours. Overall pleasant stay.

Day 1

We took the The Isle Royale Line  from Copper Harbor to Isle Royale. It took around 3.5 hours to get there. Once there, the NP rangers provided an overview of the island and safety information. We ate lunch at the Greenstone Grill, then hiked to Scoville Point – 4.2 mile loop.

Once we finished our hike, we checked in to our rooms at Rock Harbor Lodge and got settled in. On our way to dinner at the Lighthouse Restaurant, we saw our first moose by the water/restaurant area.

Later that night we went hunting for the moose and we were able to find it again!

Day 2

After breakfast we hiked to Suzy’s Cave – 3.6 mile loop. Once back to the lodge area, we stopped for lunch at the Greenstone Grill before taking a boat over to Raspberry Island.

While on Raspberry Island, we hiked 1 mile around the (hikable parts of) island, then took several different trails throughout. I’m guessing we hiked around 3 miles on the island.

Next we took the boat back. When we got back from Raspberry Island, people were pointing to an area in the woods where a moose and her two babies were. We watched them for a bit then ate dinner at the Lighthouse Restaurant. When the sun started going down we went on a moose hunt, trying to find moose again. We were able to find the moose and her babies!

Day 3

The early risers were able to see the moose and her babies close to the lodge area in the morning. This morning we walked around the lodge/marina area then went over and watched seaplanes. This was the first time we saw seaplanes so that was a cool experience.

After lunch, we took the boat for around 3.5 hours to get back to the mainland.
